After several failed attempts to run puppet-making workshops during this frigid, miserable winter, we just gave up. (Truth to tell: We escaped to Puerto Rico for one week. It was lovely.)
I would like to do the much cancelled 2-part marionette workshop at the end of March.
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 22 and 29
It takes the two days to complete a puppet. The days are not interchangeable.
Participants can be ages 8 and up and should have an adult helper. And adults are welcome to make a puppet, as well, if they wish.
Registration is required by calling 608-732-7129.
The fee is $20, payable on the first day of class. It includes all materials, including a pre-made wooden control.
Participants will work with papier mache (yes, that is how you spell it!), glue, paint and scissors. Dress for messy work. The opera house is a big, old building and while we will certainly have the heat on, I recommend wearing a sweatshirt.
Bring your lunch. There's a fridge. And the coffee pot will be on for the grownups.
Feel free to bring an idea and pictures of the puppet you'd like to make. Or decide as you go along. I will have a big box of fabric to choose from (you won't need to sew) or you can bring something if you have a specific idea. (A scrap of fabric the size of a dish towel is big enough. Light cotton or other woven fabrics work best.)
This workshop is lots of fun. I can't wait to see what wonderful puppets will come out of it!
