Mr. Punch, workshops and more!

Happy New Year, everyone!

2013 will be an exciting year for us at the Hazel Green Opera House. In the summer, the Fever River Puppeteers will be celebrating 20 years of puppeting. Also, Labor Day will mark the beginning of our 10th year in our wonderful stage home in Hazel Green. Stay tuned.

But first up:

We are scheduled to perform "Punch and Judy" at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Dubuque Museum of Art. Thanks to a grant from Alliant Energy, the performance will be free. It's part of the museum's regular series of Family Matinees. I think this will be our fourth year at the museum. We always have wonderful, enthusiastic crowds.

Winter Workshops

It all depends on the the weather, of course, but snowstorms aside, we are planning 2 different puppet-making workshops at the Hazel Green Opera House. One is a one-day easier workshop; the second is a bit more advanced and requires a 2 Saturday commitment. It's ideal to have an adult -- parent, grandparent, etc.) to work with each child (or 2). Adults are welcome to try making a puppet on their own, as well. Bring your lunch. We have a fridge and we'll have the coffee pot on. Wear clothes that you don't have to worry about, since we'll be painting, glueing, etc.

Please register ahead, so that we can have adequate materials AND alert you of weather-related cancellations, by calling 608-732-6404.

Saturday, Jan. 26:  SIMPLE SCARF MARIONETTES

10 a.m.-2 p.m. (approx.) -- $10, all ages (with parental help). Paint and decorate a head, attach it to a fabric "body" and string it to a simple control. This is a great workshop for beginners.

Saturday Feb. 2 and 9 (2-day): TP TUBE MARIONETTES

10 a.m.-2 p.m. (approx.) -- $20, ages 8 and older (parental help recommended). This is a slightly advanced workshop in which participants will work with papier mache as well as paint, glue, scissors and tape to create a moving marionette with flexible arms and legs. They will string it to a standard "airplane" control. Two days are required in order for papier mache to dry, etc.

Season Tickets & Calendars

Both are still available. We have a few calendars (beautiful, full color) at $15 apiece.
We will sell season tickets up to and including at our Easter shows. A savings of $4 per person, they are $16 for adults and $12 for children, for four shows. There are no reserved seats and you have a choice of performances for each show.
